What is Water Kefir?
Water kefir is a naturally fermented, dairy-free beverage made using kefir grains—also known as sugar grains, tibicos, or Japanese water crystals. These grains are a symbiotic culture of beneficial bacteria and yeasts that feed on sugar to produce a refreshing, lightly fizzy drink with minimal residual sugar.

A Refreshing, Naturally Fermented Drink
Water kefir is easy to make at home and can be enjoyed on its own or flavoured with fruits, herbs, or spices. It’s a great option for those who enjoy traditional, fermented drinks as part of a whole food lifestyle.

How to Rehydrate Water Kefir Grains:
Place dried water kefir grains in a clean glass jar with 1L fresh spring water, 2 tablespoons organic sugar (raw or rapadura work well), and a slice of lemon. Cover the jar and allow it to sit at room temperature for 24 hours. After soaking, strain and discard the liquid, and your grains are ready to use.

How to Make Water Kefir:
Add the rehydrated water kefir grains to 1L of spring water and 2 tablespoons of our Water Kefir Growth Premix. Allow to ferment for 48 hours, then strain and enjoy your homemade water kefir.

Serving Suggestions:
Enjoy water kefir plain, or flavour it with your favourite juices, herbs, or natural ingredients after the first ferment. Chill before serving for a refreshing, bubbly drink.

Storage Tips:
If you’re not using your grains regularly, store them in sugar water in the fridge for up to two weeks.
